This post looks at a great way to install Android firmware using a great little app now included on all our Gostreamer builds.
When it comes to install Android firmware, traditionally ,this has involved removing the power, obtaining a small screwdriver or matchstick and then holding down a hidden reset button whilst plugging in the power, which is fine if you cannot get into your box at all. However, Gostreamer now provide a super-easy method of flashing your box with new firmware, without having the hassle of the aforementioned.
Reboot Manager is a handy little Android app that is included with all of our new firmware builds, and if you dont have it on your older build you can download it from the play store.
Install Android firmware using Reboot Manger
Step 1: Download the latest firmware package for your device. Here is a list of both Droidplayer and Gostreamer firmware
Step 2: Extract or unzip the package to a clean SD card. Your SD card should now have 3 files.
Step 3: Plug your SD card into your player and open up Reboot Manger from ALL APPS
Step 4: From here, scroll down and choose Reboot Recovery
Step 5: Choose Yes to confirm
Step 6: Now your system will reboot into the recovery console and begin to install the firmware you have put onto the SD card. And you are done!
For some reason, the SD reader on the box is not reading any cards at all, despite making sure it is mounted etc etc. the system knows the reader is there, it just cant see or read any of the files. I think its knackered somehow. what I want to know is, using the reboot manager, will it work if I still use an SD card in a USB card reader or even direct from USB stick? its an M8 quad thats needing updated/sorted out and clock is ticking…Cheers
Hi, when you say ‘ensuring it’s mounted’, can you clarify? What is it you are trying to achieve? Re-install the firmware?
Thanks for the reply. see here for clarification on what and why you would check your card was either mounted or unmounted, since if it remains unmounted then the data on it is inaccessible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttytvDGuJIg. Yes I wanted to update the firmware and that required using the SD card. It will not work using the usb card reader and SD card in that, however, by using it to access other files on SD card, it did restore function to original SD card slot?? As for reboot manager, was very temperamental but this may have been due to original firmware being corrupt. I have since managed to successfully reinstall updated firmware. 🙂
