We have received a couple of malicious reviews recently on Amazon, trying to assert that the GOSTREAMER G8 boxes cannot play 4K content.
‘…..4k not possible on this box. Double check specs prior to purchase. HDMI 1.4 tut tut tut….’
The specs for our G8 are correct. There are multiple sources on the internet regarding HDMI 1.4 and 4K content. You can play 4K content on the G8.
Cinemas output at 4096 x 2160 4K resolution whereas 4k consumer TV’s have a slightly lower resolution of 3840 X 2160.
The G8 can transmit at 3840 x 2160 resolution as described, using a HDMI 1.4 cable, which is the current standard across pretty much all 4K TV sets on the market.
HDMI cables now come in two flavours: 1.4 and 2.0. HDMI 1.4 cables can output at 3820×2160-resolution at 30 frames per second. HDMI 2.0 is the latest spec and can output video at Ultra HD resolution at 60 frames per second. However, and this is very important, currently only Panasonic offers an HDMI 2.0 compatible 4K TV, in the shape of the TX-L65WT600. So, unless you have this particular TV, you are wasting your time trying to expect something to play over HDMI 2.0. Because virtually all TV sets are HDMI 1.4
