Fixing Kodi When It Wont Start

Sometimes, Kodi refuses to start, instead exiting back out to the main Android home screen.

This is almost always due to not shutting down Kodi down properly after use.

Kodi is an operating system separate from Android and like all operating systems it needs to close programs and tidy up its database before switching off. If you were to simply pull the plug on your Windows PC or Mac after you finished with it, you’d very soon encounter very serious problems with your machine.
The correct way of shutting down Kodi is by scrolling along to the EXIT KODI tab on the Kodi menu ribbon. Then choose QUIT underneath. It may take up to a minute to close down. This means that Kodi is busy closing down add-ons and tidying up ready for when you want to use it next.

Step 4. Once this has finished, press ‘HOME’ button on remote then power off the box with the red button on the remote. Unplug the box from the mains for 5 seconds and then plug back in.

Once back up to the Android home screen try to start Kodi again.

Step 5. If still unsuccessful, then follow the steps again but this time, also choose ‘CLEAR DATA’.

*Warning: Choosing CLEAR DATA will wipe your Kodi install of any Add-ons you have installed yourself. Once Kodi starts again, you will need to re-install any add-ons you’ve installed from scratch again. Unfortunately, sometimes, that is the nature of the beast

Again, once this is done, press ‘HOME’ button on remote then power off the box with the red button on the remote. Unplug the box from the mains for 5 seconds and then plug back in.

Once back up to the Android home screen start Kodi again. This should now prompt you to install a new config from our servers.

When the config has finished downloading it will display 100% until the config folder has been installed in the background and this may take a minute or two. Once complete, Kodi will exit back to the main Android home screen. You can now start Kodi again and it should load up with no problems.
