Enabling/Disabling Subtitles in XBMC

XBMC allows the use of subtitles to enhance the viewing experience of films and TV shows. The best method of doing this is using an Add-on called XBMC Subtitles which is available already on your device and just needs to be enabled to start working.

Here’s How:

Step 1. Within XBMC, go to SETTINGS > ADD-ONS>GET ADD-ONS>SUBTITLES>XBMC.ORG ADD ON’S. Select XBMC Subtitles add-on and then choose ‘install’

Step 2. Now that the add-on is installed, we need to enable it within the XBMC player. As before, within XBMC go to SETTINGS>APPEARANCE>SKIN>SETTINGS>ADD-ON SHORTCUTS. Then on the right, select the ‘Video OSD Subtitles add-on’ to be XBMC Subtitles.

Step 3. Now you can exit out of the settings menu and begin watching a film. In order to enable the subtitles, press pause or ‘ok’ on your remote. You will see the OSD (on screen display) pop-up at the bottom of the screen. Scroll to the right and you will see the subtitles icon which is represented by a box with a line at the bottom. Go into this menu and you should be confronted with a list of subtitles available for your particular film (it gets the list from the internet). Choose the subtitle you want and press return.

Step 4. To change the behaviour of the subtitles you need to select the speaker icon in the OSD. This will allow you to switch subtitles on/off and also allow you to alter the timing of them. For instance, they may be slightly ahead or behind the film. Select the Subtitle offset option and then using the slider to put them either slightly ahead or behind. When finished press return to exit out of the menus and OSD.
